As far as flavors combos go, it is hard to beat chocolate and orange. A touch of citrus to the silky chocolate is always a winner and making that magic happen in brownies is an absolute winner! I was introduced to the chocolate orange brownie from The Flying Olive Bluegrass and once I had a taste it became a constant craving. Of course, I had to put my own twist on it using their blood orange olive oil.
Let me tell you, if you have never a flavored olive oil you are missing out. If you are not local to getting your hands on one you can get it here. The gist of this recipe is that you take your favorite boxed brownie mix and substitute orange juice for water and then use blood orange olive oil in place of vegetable oil. This in itself will create a fantastic brownie.
But, what when you have the option to punch up the orange flavor than you should go for it! I did just that by creating an out of this world frosting!
For the frosting you will need:
2 C of powdered sugar
3 TBS of milk
Orange food coloring
2-3 drops of Orange Extract
Mix this thoroughly and add on top of your cooled brownie.
Next you need:
6 oz (1/2 bag) of semi sweet chocolate chips
1 stick of butter
1-2 drops of orange extact
Melt butter and chocolate chips in a double boiler and add extract. Add over cooled frosted brownies.
Finally zest a little orange on top…these will be your new favorite dessert!
