Something wicked is in the air in Cincinnati and no one is complaining. Wicked is the untold story of the witches of Oz and is here until October 5 and whether you have seen it a dozen times or you are treating yourself to this story for the first time this show is one not to be missed.
It details the story long before Dorothy arrives at Oz between two girls from different backgrounds who approach life differently but end up complimenting each other in the most wickedly delightful ways accompanied to a score that is seriously unmatched.
This was my second time seeing the show and I have to tell you that even though I knew the story and music there was an underlying new tone for the show for me and it wasn’t necessarily intentional because the show is what you knew and loved but it hit me in ways that I was not anticipating.
From acceptance and social intolerance, there was a layer to this show that always existed but blossomed in a way that I appreciated on a deeper level due to the social climate of our country.
The characters are written with such deep veins that it is impossible to not completely immersed and fall in love with them. I admit to
shedding a tear during the song Changed for Good because it just hits you right in the feels in all the right ways.
Bottom line is that Wicked shouldn’t be missed and it’s not too late for you to experience the show for yourself.
Wicked will play at the Aronoff in Cincinnati from Setptember 13-October 15. Tickets for WICKED are available at the Aronoff Center Box Office downtown at 650 Walnut Street, online at CincinnatiArts.org or by phone at 513.621.ARTS(2787).
